All Summer
Once Upon a Nation
America’s history comes alive thanks to Once Upon a Nation, running themed adventure tours, twilight to-dos and storytelling sessions in the Historic District and Valley Forge National Historical Park beginning Memorial Day weekend. Later in the summer, Once Upon a Nation celebrates a new chapter for historic Franklin Square, one of the city’s original William Penn-planned parks. The redeveloped square features a Philadelphia Park Liberty Carousel, a miniature golf course, two playgrounds, craft demonstrations, concessions and a renovated fountain. 500 Arch Street

Philadelphia Zoo, Bank of America Big Cat Falls
The highly anticipated pride of the Philadelphia Zoo, Bank of America Big Cat Falls, home to felines from around the world, will open to the public on May 25, 2006. Designed in conjunction with two new international conservation projects, the lush new exhibition features waterfalls, pools, authentic plantings and a simulated research station for aspiring zoologists. Lions, leopards, jaguars, pumas, tigers and seven new cubs will be the star attractions. 3400 W. Girard Avenue

Sesame Place
Summer 2006 is all about Elmo, as Sesame Place, the nation’s only theme park based on the popular television show, unveils its all-new Elmo’s World area. The 21,000-square-foot space will encourage imagination with three rides inspired by the lovable red guy: Flyin’ Fish, in which kids hop on the fin of a fish; Peek-A-Bug, where they can wiggle through a garden of giggles; and Blast Off, taking them on a ride into space.
